Moving where?
The first part of June the Principal of Monroe Middle School called Bryce and told him of a possible position opening up at the Middle School to teach 7th Grade English. One of the teachers was trying to take a medical retirement. They thought that everything would happen quickly and told Bryce that he should apply. We were excited because this is where Bryce wanted to end up and we both knew that we didn't want to live in Milford or Minersville forever. We were excited about the Milford job so that Bryce could get some job experience and someday be able to transfer. But when we heard about the job in Monroe it sounded even better to start off over there and we were excited! Day after day, week after week went by with still no news as to what was going to happen with this teacher. When July rolled around we began to think it wasn't going to happen and that we needed to make a decision one way or another. Our lives were totally up in the air and we were about to move to Minersville. We had already pushed back our move in date a week to buy us some time but we had to decide something quick! Either move to Minersville or give notice to Milford High School so that they could find a replacement for Bryce. If we were going to move to Monroe we still had to find a place to live and try and find me a job in Richfield. So Bryce talked with Mike, the Principal at the Middle School, and it sounded like this teacher was going to just start the school year while waiting for the medical retirement to go through and that when it did they would have to find a teacher part way through the year. Mike told Bryce that whoever they hired on would have to re-interview for the position the next year. So we decided that Bryce would teach at Milford High School and then apply for the position when it reopened the next year. I started to pack up our house and we felt good about moving to Minersville.
On Thursday, July 9th, only a week before we were supposed to move to Minersville, Bryce got a phone call from the Superintendent of the Sevier School District with a job offer. They wanted him to take a job teaching at the Detention Center in Richfield and then when Mrs. Littlewood, the teacher at Monroe Middle School, took her medical retirement, they would move him into that position. My first thought was "are you kidding me?" because we had finally made a decision and felt good about it. We took a day to think it over but Bryce felt like he should do it because ultimately he wanted to be in Monroe and they were bending over backwards trying to get him over there. The whole time I felt good about both jobs so I was fine with either one. So Friday July 10th Bryce accepted the job in Monroe. He called and gave notice to Milford High School that he wouldn't be teaching over there in the fall and referred Mandy, another teacher that he had gone to school with for the job. Mandy hadn't gotten a job yet and Milford High hired her. I told the owner of the house we were going to rent from in Minersville, and she wished me luck and said that they had had others wanting to rent the house too. So it all worker out!
Now we just had to find a place to live in Monroe! And find me a job. On Saturday, July 10th, we were coming up to Monroe for the weekend anyways for Jayson's homecoming. So we thought we had better see if we could find a place to live. Peggy knew of some people in her ward, the Nunley's, that were fixing up a house and were going to rent it out. She gave them a call and we went and looked at it. They were in the process of redoing the inside but I could see the potential. It was a two bedroom, two bathroom house, had a garage, a back storage room, and a yard. It really was the perfect size for our little family. The only problem was whether or not it would be ready in time for us to move. We drove around Richfield to a few other places but didn't like anything as much as the house in Monroe. The Nunley's told us that they could have it ready by August 5th. So Monday I called Kensington Apartments to see if we could push our move out date back. They said that we could but that we would have to be out by August 4th at the latest because they had other people lined up to move in. Talk about cutting it close! We figured if worst came to worst we could move our stuff into Peggy's garage and stay with her for a couple of days until our house in Monroe was done.
Over the weekend, I had looked on IHC's website to see if there were any RN jobs opened at the Richfield hospital so that I could transfer hospitals. I didn't see any positions open. So Monday July 12th, I went to work and was telling some of the girls that I work with my crazy story about now moving to Monroe instead of Minersville. I told them I guess I was going to have to commute until I could transfer up. Amy, my charge nurse that day, said we have got to get you a job up there because that commute would be terrible. I told her I had looked but there weren't any jobs posted. Then she pulled it up and two part time jobs and one PRN job was posted that morning! I couldn't believe it. I applied for all three positions and hoped for the best. Then on Wednesday I went to work and Amy was my charge nurse again. She came up to me and said you will never guess what just happen. She ran into a girl that she went to nursing school with. Her name is Kenzie Peterson and she had come up to Cedar to work OB for a couple of days because Cedar was so short handed at the time. As it turns out she is the OB manager for Richfield Hospital! Amy told her about me and then came and found me. Amy said that Kenzie was over in OB right then and that I should go meet her. I couldn't believe it! I went over and met her and she was really nice and told me that she would call me for an interview. It felt as though everything was falling in to place for us. That next week she called me to schedule an interview. Of course the week she wanted to do interviews I was going to be on vacation with Bryce's family to Yosemite. We had planned this trip like six months prior. Our original plan was to be moved before we went on this trip but as it turns out that wasn't going to happen. I told her of the vacation and she said it was fine and we could do the interview the following week. Later she called me back and wondered if we could just do a phone interview before I left on my trip. I told her that would be fine so we made an appointment for Tuesday July 28th after I got off of work. The day of my interview Kenzie texted me and asked if we could do it the following morning before I left on my trip. We were planning to leave Wednesday the 29th at 7 a.m., so I told her that we were leaving really early but that we could stop in Panaca Nevada at 8:30 and I could do a phone interview then. She told me that would work great. So we left Cedar City at 7am for our trip. We had rented two big vans for all of us to go together so I was in a van full of Bryce's family when they called me for my interview. We hadn't quite made it to Panaca before they called so I started the interview in the van and then Bryce pulled over as soon as he could so that I could get out. I was a little distracted with being in the van while trying to interview so I felt like the interview started out shaky but then once I got out of the van, I got into the flow of things and overall felt like the interview had gone well. On Friday July 31st we were in Yosimite National Park and I didn't have service but I received a voicemail from the recruitment office and it sounded like they were calling to offer me a job. I tried to call back but by the time I had they were already closed. I called first thing Monday morning and they offered the job to me. I accepted and then put my two weeks notice in Cedar City. By time we moved I only had 4 shifts that I had to commute back and forth between Monroe and Cedar City. I couldn't believe how things had landed into place for us. I know that we are meant to be here in Monroe and that my Heavenly Father had his hand in our lives to help us get here.
