The morning of November 10th Stockton got off of the CPAP machine and was just on regular oxygen! I woke feeling much better. I had had a fever in the night but no longer felt sick anymore. They repeated my blood work and my platelet count had gone up. My doctor said it must have been low from the virus that I had.
I love these cute little eyes!
Stockton got off oxygen and Grandma Twitchell and Aunt Jenny came to visit.
Aunt Breanna and Uncle Jason also came to visit! I love having family living close!
Between the fluids and the Pitocin that I got while I was in labor my feet were SO swollen!
I had kankles!
None of my shoes fit... Not even my slippers!
I wore flip flops but even those made indents in my feet!
Tuesday November 11th was the last day Stockton had to be on antibiotics. I was discharged on Tuesday but Stockton wasn't. They weren't busy and didn't need my room so they let me stay there still since Stockton couldn't be discharged yet.
We were hoping to go home Wednesday November 12th but Stockton wasn't breastfeeding very well and my milk hadn't come in yet. They checked his blood sugar and it was borderline low. They didn't dare do the carseat test or the cold test for fear that his blood sugar would drop even lower. The nurses said that we were probably burning off his sugars by trying so hard to get him to nurse. Because Stockton was early he just wanted to sleep and didn't have the energy to breastfeed like he needed too. We didn't want to give him a bottle because then he may not ever breastfeed so he had to get a feeding tube in his nose. We couldn't seem to get rid of these tubes!
Thursday November 13th we worked on feedings. Stockton still wasn't nursing well but my milk started to come in. My nurse that day was awesome! She showed me an alternative way to feed Stockton without having to use the feeding tube. It's called finger feeding. You let baby suck on the tip of your finger along with a tip of a feeding tube and use a syringe for the feeding. He did really well with this. I would breastfeed and then tip him off with finger feeding. I told doctor Newman that we could just do this at home and he said that was fine and that we could go home Friday morning! Stockton passed the car seat test and the cold test. They had to make sure that Stockton would be able to tolerate being in a car seat for a couple of hours and that he would be able to maintain his temperature without needing the baby warmer. They also did a hearing test. Stockton passed in his left ear but not the right so we had to go back a week later to retest which he ended up passing.
The OB floor got busy and they needed my room for another patient so I had to pack up all my stuff. Luckily we didn't live to far from the hospital so I was just going to go back and for through the night to feed Stockton. My mom came down Thursday night since we were going home on Friday morning. She stayed with us for a week to help out! The nurse that was in the Nursery Thursday night was really awesome. Since we were going home in the morning she pulled out his feeding tube and his IV. Finally free from tubes! She also found a room for me to stay in the hospital. They have two observation rooms for OB patients and she pulled strings and called the doctor and got me in one of those rooms for the night and had Stockton stay in the room with me for the night!
Friday November 14th Stockton was circumcised and finally discharged from the hospital!
